Can an Online Booking Become a Contractor Estimate?

Short answer: Yes, a booking request can provide the starting information for an estimate, but booking a visit is not the same as accepting a final price. WinkScope opens a Standard or eligible Advanced Estimate wizard with booking details pre-filled. The contractor checks scope, quantities, pricing and terms, then saves the estimate to link it to the booking.

What is the difference between a booking and an estimate?

A booking is about arranging time and collecting information. An estimate is about defining proposed work and its price. A customer requesting a bathroom remodel consultation has not yet agreed tile quantities, plumbing changes, labour or payment terms. Even a smaller repair may need inspection before the contractor can identify the cause and quote the appropriate work.

A useful process makes that difference explicit. Tell customers whether they are requesting an assessment, receiving a preliminary indication or reviewing a priced proposal. Do not describe a booking confirmation as a fixed repair price unless that is genuinely what the contractor has agreed.

What information can carry into the estimate?

In WinkScope, converting a booking opens the real estimate workflow with relevant information pre-filled: the client, address, job title, scope drawn from answers or notes, and booking photos. Where eligible AI analysis is available, its summary can contribute to the starting scope. The contractor remains responsible for checking that the information describes the actual proposed work.

Pre-filling reduces re-entry; it does not finish the estimate automatically. The booking links to the estimate when the contractor saves it. Opening the wizard and closing it without saving is not the creation of a linked estimate. If the linked estimate is deleted, the booking can be converted again.

A practical booking-to-estimate checklist

  1. Review the customer and property. Check that the request is linked to the correct client and address.
  2. Clarify the requested outcome. Separate symptoms from confirmed findings and agreed work.
  3. Check the scope. Include necessary preparation, access, exclusions and assumptions.
  4. Verify quantities and prices. Review measurements, materials, labour, markup and applicable tax rather than accepting unverified figures.
  5. Confirm terms. Make the payment schedule, validity and conditions appropriate for the job.
  6. Review and save. Save the estimate to establish its booking link; sending it is a separate deliberate step.

Do customers need an on-site inspection first?

It depends on the work. Photos and answers may be enough to organise the right assessment, but concealed pipework, roof damage, electrical faults or structural changes often require professional checks. Treat uncertain conditions as assumptions or exclusions to resolve, not as facts established by the booking form.

For a remodel, the first visit may be about measurements and choices. For a service call, it may be diagnosis. The online request helps organise those steps; it does not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of a final quote.

Standard, Advanced and AI: what is available?

Bookings access depends on the account's plan and active rollout stage. Within eligible access, Starter uses Standard Estimates without booking AI analysis; Pro adds AI analysis but still uses Standard Estimates. Agency and Enterprise-level access can offer the choice of Standard or Advanced. Check current account eligibility before planning a workflow around a specific option.

AI can help organise information, but it cannot automatically create an Advanced Estimate. The contractor opens, reviews and saves the supported wizard. AI output also needs checks against the job's country, trade vocabulary, units and pricing.

What happens to a diagnostic fee?

A booking fee and a job estimate remain distinct records. If a credit was agreed, the contractor can choose to deduct the fee from the job during conversion. The supported credit applies once on the first job invoice, not repeatedly across invoices. Keeping the estimate separate avoids showing the fee as a job deduction. Read the diagnostic fee guide before deciding how to describe this to customers.

Frequently asked questions

Does submitting a booking create an estimate automatically?

No. Conversion opens a pre-filled estimate wizard. The estimate links to the booking only when the contractor saves it.

Are photos carried into the estimate workflow?

Yes, the conversion workflow can include booking photos. Review them and the scope before saving.

Can an AI summary replace a site assessment?

No. It summarises the information provided and does not establish concealed conditions or guarantee a diagnosis or price.
