An optional fee customers pay when booking. Card payment works only when the contractor's Stripe account is connected and active; otherwise customers pay you directly and can upload a payment screenshot. A paid fee automatically gets one invoice marked paid.
Where: Set up in Bookings > Settings > Diagnostic fee. Managed on each booking's Payment tab.
Plans: Starter and above
Turn on a diagnostic fee
Bookings > Settings > Diagnostic fee, switch on Charge a diagnostic fee and enter the Amount.
Choose How customers pay and When is it collected?. For manual payment fill in Manual payment instructions and optionally Require a payment screenshot.
Optionally write a Refund policy (shown to customers) and choose Credit this fee toward the final job.
Click Save.
Record a manual payment
Open the booking from Bookings, then the Payment tab.
Review the customer's screenshot if one was uploaded, enter a Payment reference (optional) and click Mark as paid — or Not received if it did not arrive.
Marking paid creates the booking's invoice already paid, with a balance of zero.
Charge a fee on a booking that did not have one
Open the booking > Payment tab > Add a fee to this booking, enter the amount and click Save fee.
Refund a booking fee
Card payment: booking > Payment tab > Refund, then confirm. The refund comes from your own Stripe account.
Manual payment: refund the customer yourself, then use the mark-as-refunded button on the Payment tab.
If a paid booking is cancelled without a refund it is labelled cancelled and not refunded. WinkScope never holds or refunds booking fees.
Rules and limits
One active invoice per booking. To make a new one, cancel or delete the existing invoice first (deleting asks for confirmation, with a stronger warning if paid).
Fee credit is used once, on the first invoice of the job, and never more than that invoice. At Convert to estimate the contractor can choose to deduct it or keep the estimate separate (fee not shown).
What this cannot do
WinkScope does not pay out or fund refunds; card refunds come from the contractor's connected Stripe account.
Still stuck?
If WinkScope does not behave the way this page describes, do not work around it. Open a ticket from Support > My Tickets with the page you were on and a screenshot, and the team will look at the account directly.
